Make Learning Sticky: How to do it in Canvas
Make Learning Sticky in the Digital World

This is an interactive two-screen session. We will be using Nearpod as the presentation vehicle, so you will be best able to participate if you have access to your computer and your Chromebook or your Chromebook and your phone.

Brain science has taken a new direction. In the last several years, researchers have begun to examine the actual learning process to help educators determine what techniques actually affect student learning and retention. Some of their recent findings are counterintuitive to what may seem obvious in the digital learning environment. In this session, we will examine current research about teaching and learning in the multimedia realm and what we can do to be more effective learning facilitators. After all, the learning happens between our students' ears. We can only help that occur. We will also look at 6 essential processes that help make our lessons "sticky." This session is going to unforgettable! (At least that's the theory.)

You Can't Do It All - Prioritize Educational Tactics

No prerequisites. This is an interactive two-screen session. We will be using Nearpod as the presentation vehicle, so you will be best able to participate if you have access to your computer and your Chromebook or your Chromebook and your phone.

With all the possibilities provided by our amazing technologies, it is challenging to decide what elements of the educational process deserve our most focused attention. And one of the most essential components frequently (read that as always) gets overlooked: You!

Without a healthy, happy, capable, but not overstressed teacher, the rest of the process suffers. In this interactive session, we will discuss how to ensure that you, your students, and their parents can get the most out of your time together without ending up all swaybacked and broken down in a pasture somewhere . . . or worse, on a farm up north (where my parents claimed they sent all of our old dogs). Join us for what promises to be an enlightening session!

Getting Interactive in Canvas with Nearpod
Getting Interactive in Canvas with Nearpod

This will be a make it and take it session. It's also a two-screener. You may want to be at your computer and have your Chromebook at hand (optimal), or use your Chromebook with your phone nearby (suboptimal). A working knowledge of Nearpod will be very useful, but not absolutely essential.

You know you've been itching to try a Nearpod session with your class. Or, maybe you've done one or two but now want to know how to add your Nearpod lessons to Canvas. Perhaps you're a Nearpod pro, but want to try adding a lesson to Canvas using the LTI. We will make a quick Nearpod lesson in Google Slides using the Nearpod Add-on (install the Add-On prior to the session) and add the lesson in Live Mode using the LTI for those days when you are face-to-face with your students. We will also see how to add a Student-paced session to Canvas and how to share your content with the Canvas Commons without getting the reports from every teacher who uses your Nearpod assignment. If you have the courage to face your fears and try something new, join us! You won't regret it!
